Our Vision

Our Mission

To help disadvantaged communities, which includes artisan producers in the UK and Europe, access the ‘global market’.

We see the global market as ordinary communities in the developed world and we see the challenge as linking the two sets of communities together through truly fair trade and through eco-tourism. 

The Difficulty

Modern trade through huge conglomerates is on the one hand holding developing communities down by making them produce ever more cheaply for western consumption, resigning them and their children to continued poverty and abuse, and, on the other hand , western consumers get an increasingly standardised and debased product be it a Chinese factory made terracotta strawberry planter that will crack if you look too hard at it or a package holiday in a bland hotel offering ‘full English’ breakfast. Things are ‘cheaper’ but in the process everything is debased.

​It is wrong to knock the benefits of modern trade in terms of affordability or choice in our shops but there could be a better balance through which everyone benefits be it through greater experience, better quality and even an increased appreciation and knowledge of the communities who produce the goods and services we consume- there is a cultural and aesthetic quality to what we buy that should be an integral part of the buying experience. 

In part, our mission is to give value to these qualities.

Finding the Balance

This balance cannot be changed by us alone, it has to be a collaborative process, releasing energy through a horizontal structure where the ethos and ethics are shared; it cannot be about dictatorial hierarchies where everyone is organised and does/ buys what they are told. We can do ‘our bit’ and, hopefully , in the process inspire others to add further.

A Growing Community

For our part, we can introduce artisan products to a broader community through garden shows but our vision is that through the webpages and through the people we interact with, our broader community, we can inspire and facilitate others to carry our work further- from enjoying a holiday with the communities we buy from to getting their friends to join them or buy from our website or, indeed, from having ideas to take our vision further themselves in which case we will do everything in our power to support them.

​This is our vision - helping to nurture a growing community of like-minded individuals and organisations collaborating with communities around the world helping to enrich all of our lives through education, knowledge, cooperation , endeavour and achievement; all working towards a fairer earth and becoming part of the change that we all want to see.
