Crete was the centre of terracotta pot and pithoi production in Minoan times, the first great Mediterranean civilisation some 2,500 years ago and carrying on a human pottery tradition going back to ancient Mesopotamia some 5000 years ago at the very beginnings of the modern human story.
These pots and pithoi are still made in Crete in traditional ways and in the style of the ancients by family potters who have been making pots for centuries if not millennia on the island. Incredibly beautiful, and carrying on designs from ancient times, these pots are completely frost proof.
